General Studies, Global AA
Program Overview
The Global Associate of Arts (Global AA) in General Studies provides a well-rounded foundation of knowledge designed to prepare students for employability and/or further academic work. Students can focus their skill set by choosing between two concentrations, Business and Computing, each designed to support their professional goals.
The program is taught by practicing professionals and integrates the liberal arts with applied study in contemporary professional fields. Through the Business concentration, students build foundational knowledge in accounting, economics, fi-nance, marketing, and information systems. Through the Computing concentration, students develop foundational knowledge in computer science, data analytics, data visualization, data mining, and Python programming for machine learning.
Across both concentrations, coursework supports the development of communication, critical thinking, quantitative reasoning, information literacy, and ethical judgment while providing a strong educational foundation for lifelong learning. Students develop the capacity to think critically and creatively in preparation for future academic study and for professional pathways in business, computing, and related fields.
Learning Outcomes
Students who complete the Associate of Arts in General Studies will be able to:
- Communicate effectively to general and specialized global audiences in business and technology through structured written, oral and visual presentations.
- Identify, categorize, and analyze problems and issues, and draw warranted conclusions.
- Perform accurate calculations using symbolic operations and provide accurate interpretations and explanations of data.
- Correctly identify, categorize, evaluate, and cite multiple resources to create projects, papers, or performances with an emphasis in global business and computing studies.
- Describe ethical issues and apply ethical principles or frameworks in judgment and decision-making in global business and computing.
- Describe and analyze relationships between academic learning and problems outside the classroom.
- Explore, connect, and apply concepts and methods across multiple fields of study.
- Examine global connections between academic learning and professional goals and demonstrate attitudes such as curiosity, self-awareness, adaptability, and motivation.
Curriculum
The degree requires completion of 60 units.
A cumulative grade-point average of 2.00 or higher is required.
Students complete one of two prescribed concentrations: Business or Computing.
Note: Substitutions may apply subject to GGU WW Dean or Associate Dean approval.
Note: Although students have a choice between two concentrations, the concentration chosen will appear on neither the studentβs transcript nor diploma upon graduation.
